The course has provided staff in Kirklees with the knowledge and skills to support the development of an exercise referral programme specifically for people living with dementia. It has also guided us to develop alliances and become a partner of the Kirklees Dementia Action Alliance supporting others to develop a wide range of activity opportunities across the Borough. | Alison Morby MBE Sport and Physical Activity Development Manager , Kirklees Council |

FF MOT at Home | Our past use of the Functional Fitness Training and Programme in Rochdale has enabled us gain further funding from the CCG to train 15 extra volunteers and staff to be able to deliver the Functional Fitness MOT’s. It has enabled us to run 8 Functional Fitness MOT assessments and follow up 10 week courses across the borough this year, attracting 130 older adults and people with mobility, balance and functional ability issues. We have then forwarded 75% of these participants into new weekly exercise sessions suitable for their abilities, and we have followed them with further MOT assessments at different times during the year and seen improvements in their functional ability. We have now reached capacity in the 8 weekly Functional exercise weekly sessions we run, and have waiting lists for the next set of Functional Fitness Assessments and courses, with referrals coming in through GP Referral scheme, pulmonary rehabilitation, neurophysio rehabilitation, falls prevention and various other organisations, a much needed gap in provision has been plugged by the use of Functional Fitness training in Rochdale! | Elaine Stott, Active4Life coordinator Link4Life, Rochdale, Lancashire |

FF MOT at Home | Doing the FF MOT course has allowed me to teach this to my HND Fitness, health and exercise students as part of the curriculum. As part of their SQA Higher National Diploma module, Applied fitness testing for special population groups, the students have selected and applied some of the tests when working with older adults in care homes. This has been part of a 12 week physical activity project in which both care home residents and students benefited from the experience. | Lisa Dods, Sport and Fitness Lecturer, Perth College UHI, Scotland |
FF MOT at Home | The recent Functional MOT training was greatly received by the participating staff. They have continued to feedback that they have gained so much confidence from the training and are now thinking much more about how functional deficits are related to the persons overall health and well being. They are also thinking much more about promoting physical activity with the people they support and are much more confident in how they deliver exercise. Our staff work with some of the most vulnerable people in our communities and I am delighted that they now are armed with these additional knowledge and skills. This means that older people across Lanarkshire are receiving more effective person-centred interventions. I would highly recommend your courses and I am scoping further funding opportunities to be able to use your expertise again in the future. | Lynn Flannigan, Lanarkshire Care Home Liaison Physiotherapist, Lanarkshire, Scotland |
OEP | I have been training people for over 30 years I have been training my self since I was 12. I learnt a long time ago that one never knows it all. Also we can become sloppy over time with our technique. The course informed me to concentrate on the client as they performed the exercise. So that their efforts would be more effective and therefore more rewarding. I would like to praise the tutor and the female examiner for their sensitivity and understanding in dealing with experienced trainers who can at times think they know it all. | Mark Morgan Otago Course 2013 |
FF MOT at Home | With the great support and enthusiasm from Bob and Dawn, The Functional Fitness MOT training has been a catalyst for engaging SMN personnel in the development of physical activity within group sessions. Many of the staff have now also been trained in the Strength and Balance – Home Exercise Programme and this has given confidence to develop pathways of activity as part of session delivery for group members. Keep up the good work. | Maurice Donohue – Project Manager - Sporting Memories Foundation (Scotland) |

The course was well researched and delivered and delegates felt that they had been given a good balance of information, time for discussion and practical tools and ideas to take back to their projects. | Paths for All |

SLM | Involving older people in motivating other older | SLM Student - Leisure Services Manager |
SLM | A must for those who wish to develop volunteering activity for older people in physical activity. A course very well organised and enthusiastically delivered which gave much information but also practical guidance. Great resources too ! In Kirklees, following the training , we are now benefitting from the support of 75 “physical activity motivators” ( senior peer mentors!) who support us on a weekly basis on our exercise referral programme ….and have even had to develop a waiting list for training ! Their “someone like me” approach has supported many patients on the scheme and has provided motivation and support resulting in sustained activity participation. The experience and wisdom they bring totally complements the technical skills of the exercise professional and adds to the quality experience of the programme. This course is definitely a “best buy” for physical activity!!! | SLM Student |

EFS | Freedom Leisure in Hailsham Leisure centre is the lucky recipient at the “National Fitness awards” in the UK of the Best Rehabilitation Facility of the year Award 2015.
